Nikki

Yep, sure do, Nikki. I try and follow each colour for as far as it goes (or as far as my hoop allows without moving it). I only ever end a thread when it would take more thread to jump the gap than to stop and restart it- generally about 2-3 cm. I usually start with the most predominant colour and then work through the others in order of quantity of stitches. With subsequent colours I weave the thread under the already made stitches at the back so it all looks neat. I find this system works quite well for me and it's certainly a lot faster to stick with one colour for as long as you can. The only tedious part I would say is towards the final few colours, when I'm usually spending more time weaving under previous stitches at the back than actually forming new stitches! Oh well.

Best of luck Stitching

And this is pretty much how I work on everything except my SQ - all of my Teresa Wentzler's are done by choosing a section/design element (the castle, the trees, the rocks - whatever), picking a symbol and working it until I run out of stitches I can easily reach, and so on through them all. And on those, I backstitch as I complete each section - I once saved all the bs for the end, and it just about drove me over the edge. And I find it much easier to do when the area is still fresh in my mind...

I'm leaving all the back stitch till the end on my current TW dragon, only because I absolutely HATE back stitch, but I know it's gonna drive me over the edge when I finally get to it! Bah! Twisted Evil

I saved it all on her Fall Carousel Horse - you know, the one with the grape vine border? Never again... And then I wonder why it took me 10 years to finish it (well, not counting having 2 kids in there). Smile

Grape vine border, hey? That's gotta be a killer. I've already taken far too long to do this one. When I started I estimated it would take me about 6 months, well it's now been 9 months and I still haven't even finished the inner picture (let alone the border, the beading, the back stitch, the metallics...). Mind you, I did take a good three months out in the middle over summer because of the heat. Now the weather's cooled down again, I'm back at it every evening and it feels good to be making some progress. I'll be really peeved at myself if I haven't got it finished by the time we get back to Australia- we leave in just 6 weeks!

Wish me luck! Razz

PS: Why is it that all cross sticthers hate back stitch so much? Just what is it about back stitch that fails to inspire? Rolling Eyes

We just do Rolling Eyes .

When I found out about SQ went to take a look at the pictures in the gallery.Saw that one of the stitchers used highlights ,every day another colour, just to see how much she had stitched.
It reminded me of my mother who had once a pattern with a big grey cat. when she looked at all the greys , she thought how am I going to cope? She found some coloured pencils and decided to colour every stitch and that worked wonders.
So when I got my SQ ,had a look at the pattern and decided to do that too. In order to see what has been stitched. So if I stitch 4 stitches of the same colour I colour them in a light green pencil and so on.
By parking I use a purple dot when the stitch is not completed yet. Because working on evenweave makes it's impossible for me to park more than 3 stitches away and use an orange pencil in a new stitch.
The pages I have finished are green, even if I missed 1 stitch, it's quite easy to see , This is how it works for me. But don't get me wrong I don't park that much yet, Just getting the whole parking into my system slowly.
Does that make any sense Question

I think I follow what you're saying. I use coloured highlighters too to see where I'm going and what I've done. I put a dot or a dash in the squares I'm about to do (so I don't miss any accidentally) and then colour them in completely when I've done that stitch. I change colours sometimes but it has nothing to do with how much I did on a certain day- just when I get sick of that colour! Cool
