They charge about $8 freight and its a quick delivery . You can ordr online WWW.thefoxcollection.com.au ( I think from memory
The only bad thing about them is that they dont like heavy frames. As I use qsnaps that is not a problem for me .

Thank you for that information, Trudie. I do receive the Fox Collection catalogue and have often oggled at the Universal floor stand ( it's quite similar to Hearthside's Original floor stand), but wondered how it would handle a really big scroll frame (which is what I'll need for my SQ), and how easy it would be to flip your work over to work on the back. It's so good having insider information!

That floor stand looks almost identicle to the one I have! Same black knobs and everything! It's a bit pricey there - I got mine at Wal Mart for $25 - but if it comes from here and they are resellers, then that might make the difference.

It definitely isn't the Rolls Royce of floor stands, but it is serviceable. My SQ does tend to tip it over when I'm not working on it, but since it's on my home-made oak scrolls, those are heavier than it is intended to hold, I am sure. When I am working on it, one end naturally rests on the arm of the couch, so I can actually benefit from my Ott light Smile

Yes it is exactly the same as yours Rife . The next time I go to NY city Iam going to try and find a good needlecraft shop to see if they have floorstands . I dont want to buy one online without being able to sit at it first ! In the meantime my universal one will do the job . As I said Qsnaps help .

Trudie, I use mine for the small jobs I do when I'm sitting on the couch watching TV.
The one I have is made of Rock Maple one of the hardest woods ...so I'm told....and although it will hold the light weight Qsnap...it doesn't do so good on the heavy stuff....If I had to spend more then 20.00 for it I wouldn't do it ..I would invest the money in the wood and make my own...really you have given me too much credit on making the one I have. If you figure out how tall you want it just go to the hardware store and have them cut what you need ...go home and get out the drill and make holes...if you want ...give me a day and I will type up step by step what I did...what I put here was just from memory...not real specific and you can do one in an afternoon...really.....

Tami you really deserve the credit as there is no way I could build one myself LOL
Having one tailor made to our height is a great thing. I was lucky in that DH decided that if this was going to be my last floorstand he had beter do some modifications and we did. I have 3 different size extensions so depending on where I want to sit I can make it longer or very long . That was really my only dissapointment with the universal as I found it too short . Its incredible that you girls can get your xstitch requirements so cheap in the US of A . I go green when I read about the floss sales . We pay $1.35 here for the dmc . Evenweave and aida is just as bad. Iam lucky to have a daughter in NYC who will send me some she buys online . Actually I thought at the time that the $99 I had to pay for the FS was pretty cheap ! You certainly got a bargain .

Trudie quite often I can get floss for as little as .25 per skien...I don't know what the postage would be and if it would be worth it...but next time you want some floss let me know as I'm always shopping for that stuff and have a local HobbyLobby here and there is a Local Needle Work shop that I can buy from as well....if you send me your zip code I can see how much it would cost to send you stuff from here...

Trudie....did look up what it would cost to send a pound to you in an envelop....10.10....so if you think you can save 10.00 by ordering here it may be worth the cost to send....it would be a week getting to you but if you can save some money...I'm all for that ...you may want to think about it...

P.S. I wouldn't charge you anything....

Yay!!! Tami's our new best friend from the USA!! That's so kind of you, Tami. I think it may definitely be worth it for when I buy all the threads for my SQ.

Well, I've spoken to hubby dear (is that what DH stands for? dear husband?) about this and he says we could do it when we go to his parents' place in 2 weeks because his father is a builder and has a woodworking shed. So, Tami, if you wouldn't mind going to the trouble, I would really love the step-by-step explanation of how you made your wonderful stand. Thank you! Very Happy
