Ever have one of those days?     Reply with quote

Last night I was working on "Hummingbird and Apple Blossoms" by Heade, and it seemed like for every one stitch I got in place, there was another one that would knot up/frustrate/be just plain in the wrong place.

I hate to constantly change threads, so I try to run the thread as long as I can, moving until I run out of nearby symbols or thread itself. However, last night I finally ran into a whole bunch of stitches that were off by one spot....

I was so frustrated, having to pull them out and start over, and then the thread would tangle, or shred, or just be annoying when I was trying to start anew.

I just needed to vent, a bit, and so I was wondering if anyone else ever had nights were it seemed like NOTHING was accomplished...

Ihave ordered and received the Ehrets.. Just looking at it and checking out the stitches. Don't want to start it until I work more on my large fractal..On page 13 with 15 pages to go... along with many others on the go... Patricia

Yes, definitely have days like those (check out Meredith's blog entry on a similar experience she had), you just have to realise that the universe doesn't want you to stitch that day and just go with it! I don't know why some days everything just goes really smoothly and other days there just doesn't seem to be anything you can do right! Have another cup of tea and do something else I say! Very Happy

No, never happens to me. I wish! That's part of why I keep a rotation of many projects - if something is giving me trouble, I put it away and work on something else for the evening. Though, if I have to frog, I do try to get that done, and possibly re-done, before I put it up - but if I get the wrong stuff taken out, then I don't have that hanging over my head, making me dread picking it up again.

When floss or lighting, or even my head, aren't cooperating, I work on something else. I have found that to be a life-saver, not to mention a lot less occurrence of trouble projects being launched across the room Smile

Great advice! And if that doesn't work, add some sherry and go to bed! Laughing

yes, I've had those days too... since I don't work page by page, but rather like a puddle getting ever larger, I often count out large "confetti" areas .... so mistakes happen when you miscount.

With "Delft Grapes" I made a grid on the fabric for the first time ( booooring to get it done) but well well well well worth the effort I am finding...

Now if I am heading out into a large area of fabric unstitched I often do a half stitch only in the main colour, then after a decent area is done I stop and (double) cross check it all against the other stitches and the grid... once I know for sure it should all be in the right place I make the second arm of the cross stitch and then I also know that using these stitches crosses as reference guides to the next colours is also safe to do...
half stitches also make for easier unpicking Wink if needs must...

I agree too.. if it's not working that day, set it aside before you turn a semi-bad stitching day into a disasterous one... wind floss onto bobbins instead is usually my option...
