Stitching Over 2 Threads     Reply with quote

I'm not a "professional" stitcher, but I do good work. However, I've never stitched on anything except Aida cloth. I'm about to order supplies for a cross-stitch anniversary gift, and the pattern states
the following: "Stitch on 28 ct. dusty green Jobelan over 2 threads." I know enough to realize that 28-count is extremely small, and I assume that stitching over two threads means I wouldn't be making those tiny, tiny stitches. What exactly does the phrase, "over two threads" mean?

look at the threads as a tic-tac-toe board and bring your thread up in one corner of the board and cross over two threads to bring your thread down in the opposite corner. clear as mud, right? give it a try. while SQ patterns don't contain fractional stitches, you'll find them much easier when you encounter them on other projects when working over two.

Hi,
The previous person is right as far as she goes, but I would add that if the pattern does not have any fractional stitches and you want to make things easier for yourself why not stitch it on 14 count Aida instead? It will end up the same size & you won't have to worry about stitching on a different type of material from the one that you are used to.
