I just purchased HAED's chart 'Snow Queen and Winter King.' The pattern itself is a night scene, so quite a few different shades of blue are involved. In addition, they use numbers as symbols quite frequently, making the chart more than a bit difficult to read as black-and-white.
I know others have suggested going through and highlighting or coloring with a corresponding color, but since the pattern has so many blues in it I think I'd get those confused as well--help! I really might go blind with this one--over one, on 25ct Lugana.
Thanks in advance for any and all ideas. . .

Kathleen:
I think some people mark off all the colors of one symbol they are going to stitch with a highlighter, and then when they complete the stitch, they mark the symbol with a different color highlighter. I haven't tried doing that, but maybe that will help.

Thanks, Lani--purchased some pen highlighters today. It's definitely going to take some time to highlight, re-highlight and then highlight the next color, but that's better than constantly un-stitching and re-stitching, especially on a pattern this size.
Started organizing the floss for it today--90 colors, which is comparatively small, especially considering the SQ charts, but few of them are on bobbins, and I like to pre-cut the entire skein to 18-inch lengths. Winding all the bobbins is going to take hours, but again, will make the actual stitching so much easier.
Remind me why I like this hobby? . . .

You may be on to something there.
That's the only reason I can figure out, anyway, for why, after working on a 5x7 design involving 3 complete frogs and re-stitching of a butterfly outline, plus moving (accidentally) one-half of the design over to the left one square and trying to blend it in so no one would notice (worked, thank heaven), I immediately started setting up for the next project.
Definition of insanity--doing the same thing twice and expecting different results

I have several projects on the go at the present time GK and HAED. Here is what I do and it's only a suggestion. I have colored pencils and after I do either one symbol or a section of the same symbol I color them in the chart (working copy) it's easier to follow the pattern that way. Another thing that I do is enlarge my working copy so that the symbols aren't that tiny and hopefully no mistakes are made. I have also seen some that grid I can't do that don't ask me why I just can't.
Good luck looking forward to watching your progress.

It's shorthand for "Heaven and Earth Designs." They seem to specialize in fantasy, fairies and other mythical stuff. Website is heavenandearthdesigns.com.

If you find something, let us know Always interested in new patterns, though I have a stack of at least 6 that I'd love to do for myself but won't get to for quite a few years . . .
