Well it seems like I've been away for an age! We left Malta on the 8th of December and have been on the road, staying with Friends and relatives and living out of boxes and suitcases ever since. We've finally touched down in Brisbane, Australia and have found a nice little house with a lovely garden on a quiet street. We're slowing unpacking things and equipping our new house with the things we need (bed should be being delivered today! Thank goodness, I'm getting really sick of sleeping on the floor!). We still haven't got anything to sit on yet except a few beanbags so I'm afraid my sewing hasn't come out of its hidey-hole at all over the past two motnhs and I must say I do miss it. I can't wait to get a decent chair and a decent lamp and get back into it gung-ho!It's very strange to be 'home' in Australia, after so many years away I feel more like an alien. The accent is frightfully thick, and I surprise myself to hear the same sounds coming from my own throat! Still, things are slowly settling down. Hubby has found a new job and I'm still on the lookout. The very best thing about being home is the the fruit! Oh, the freshest ingregients you could imagine (after Malta's food desert, I'm in absolute heaven!), mangos every day, avocados a-kimbo, fruit salad for breakfast, it's bliss! I still proclaim that the very best place on earth for a vegetarian is Australia!
Anyway, I thought I'd just check back in. I've been missing all you guys, and am frantically trying to catch up on all the conversations you've been having without me- Monet's looking great and Rife continues to make ever-stealthy progress on her L&U. Oh, by the way, we did go back to the Cluny museum in Paris on our way back and have another squizz at those wonderful wonderful tapestries. Absolutely magic and well worth the plane ticket over just to see them!

Anyway, I hope you're all well and enjoying the new year. Good luck and god speed with all your projects, and hopefully it won't be so long until I next chat with you.

WooHoo! Welcome back, and glad you've landed! And it's summer there! Glad you are getting settled, and hope your bed has arrived - sleeping on the floor just cripples me, so I understand!

Got to the Cluny again, huh? Lucky. I'm planning a trip to the UK next year, but going to the continent will be too much, especially if our dollar doesn't make a comeback between now and then. But at least, maybe this time in the UK, I can get to the Victoria & Albert, where they have a huge selection of antique samplers and other needleworks. Wish I hadn't been a dumb kid the last time I was there, because I could've covered a lot of ground in the two years I lived there. One week next year just won't make up for it...

Well, cool, I now have a couch in Brisbane (yes, I'm inviting myself over), a couple in the Sydney area, and one near Auckland, NZ. Someone I know needs to move to Perth so I can see that side, too, if I ever get down there!! Someday, someday... probably well after I have L&U done Smile Hope you get to stitch soon!!

Welcome back, and I am glad you are getting settled. I've never been down under, but it sounds lovely. Hopefully you can get back to stitching soon and things will slowly return to normal.

Gee, thanks for the welcome back, guys. And, Rife, my couch will be at your disposal just as soon as I actually get a couch!

I've just realised that there is one of you out there who is ALSO in Brisbane... Angela! How exciting, I've never actually lived in the same general location as a fellow cyber stitcher before!! As I recall, you're working on 'Sense of Light'- how's it coming along? And how's this summer treating you? Pretty hot hey?!

Upon perusing the members list, I see there is also another Brisbanite lurking in the background- a shy little newbie with 0 posts under her belt- Jean. We should all get together and hold an Aussie SQ party! Razz

OK, I'll go back to my cage now and behave....

Today is pretty much my last day of slacking off so I think I might head out to the hammock and take out my poor neglected TW and finally set about finishing it off. Here's positive thinking!
