Cross Stitch Patterns by Scarlet Quince | In the Flesh
It's been a little while, so I thought it must be time for an update.
Well, the couch still hasn't arrived (!) but I've become completely desperate to work on my poor neglected dragon, so I've set myself up with a little lamp on my bed and stitch as best I can there. It's not very comfortable, but I just can't not stitch any longer!
And, exciting of all exciting news, I've finally found an actual real-life needlework shop! After all those years of living overseas where there were no actual embroidery shops and only buying online, I finally walked into an actual shop the other day! It was such fun to have a poke around and pick things up and feeeel the silks, etc.! Mind you, I just bought a few more needles, because it is more than three times as expensive as shopping online, even including postage from the UK!!! Oh well, it was still fun.
So that's pretty much it from me for the moment. I'm just determined to get in and finish my TW dragon as quickly as possible, because it really is just getting beyond a joke now! I thought I would have this piece finished by July last year!!! I also ordered some Q-snaps for my next project, just to motivate me even more.
AND AND AND, can you believe it.... there's another Lady and Unicorn in the collection!!!!!! I just about screamed when I saw it there!!!! I just have to get started on them right now!!! I'm just bursting at the seams with excitement. God, I love those tapestries!
Ah, okay, now I've got that out of my system I can regain my normal composure. But it is rather exciting, don't you think? Good on Meredith, God bless her little cotton socks!
Good to hear that everything is allright with you. Is it good to be back in Australia? It seems like it, except for your couch .
As for the stitching, what do you expect girl, you went from one summer to another summer and moving takes time!! Now there is this new pattern, you have a reason to finish the TW fast.
Isn't it fun to be in a real shop Just to see and browse around, didn't know it is so expensive in Aus.
The only good thing about it is that you can see what's new and buy them on the net, but the waiting till it arrives
Oke Alanna, start stitching, go go go girl.
May I ask about your SIL? Hope all is going well
Hi Fenny, and thanks for all that encouragement! I did actually manage to spend a very decent amount of time on my dragon this weekend and now I've finished the little minstrel man under the tree! That means I've only got the ground cover to go before I will have finished all the actual cross stitching, and then it's on to all the fiddly bits like the back stitching, metallics, beads and speciality stitches. Still, I'm proud of my weekend's work and it feels so good to finally see some progress! I'll post a progress picture when I finish all the crosses.
Unfortunately, my SIL is not doing very well at the moment, but thanks for asking. She starts 4.5 months' worth of chemo on Friday. I would really like to stitch her something, but I'll actually put that in another post.
Man, too bad you are still couchless - good thing I'm not travelling anytime soon, as I really don't do well sleeping on the floor But at least you have a temporary set-up! And to help motivate you to get that dragon done, I will finish Fantasy Triptych, if not this week, then the next time it comes up in rotation next month!!!! Yeah!! I can't wait to finish it - and then my first Chatelaine gets started!! And I am now about 2/3 done with The Castle, as well - want to get that one done, too; am considering doing her English Garden Sampler next - want to do the peacocks in it!!
I can't believe there are now 4 of these tapestries charted!!! Meredith is going to be my undoing! I just can't imagine doing all of them and have them all hanging together! But at the rate I'm going on the first one, which is a small version, by the way, I won't have to worry about the others - I'll never get to them! WAHHHH!!
So, what store did you go to? I know of Dragonfly Dreams there, in the Blue Mountains, I think? My pal from Sydney was just there last weekend with her mum and a friend. There's another one there somewhere, but I can't for the life of me remember the name or where it is - Stitches & Spice maybe?? That might be on the other side of the country.... I think my pal does a lot of online shopping, too, especially here, as the dollar gets weaker and weaker, meaning great deals for everyone NOT here What silks did you get to play with? I bet Dinky Dyes - an Australian dyer, currently living here in the US. I love her line, am using 3 of them right now on a bookmark for my mom for Mother's Day. But hey, I'm easy - I have yet to find a thread I didn't like, except maybe those %^&* Kreinik blending filaments
Hello, Rife, good to 'hear' your 'voice' again! Wow, that's great news about your triptych, I'm really gonna have to get a move on with my TW! It sounds like you'll be finishing a few things soon, what fun! Finishing is almost as good as starting!
Aren't those L&U charts crazy! I can see the rest of my life being devoted to doing them all!
It's a funny coincidence that the shop you know is in the Blue Mountains, that's where I come from! However, that's now more than 1000km from where I'm living so not the one I went to! I've never heard of that shop, but it's been years since I lived in the Mountains so a lot has changed. It's still home though, funny after coming back to Australia after so many years living overseas and all the kind of reverse culture shock that you go through, but the Mountains were still home. As blue and as beautiful as ever. Sigh. I've got a panoramic photo of them over my desk (looking at it right now). Such a beautiful place.
The silks I played with were 'Edgar' or something like that. Very shiny. I didn't even look at the price though, seeing as my needles already cost me a small fortune! And I'm just about to move on to the accursed Kreinik blending filaments- do you stitch with them combined with your floss or do you go over your stitches seperately with the Kreinik afterwards? I can never decide which is best.

It doesn't look that far on my map Just kidding!

I used to use them with the floss, but since The Castle is covered with them in my version, I just decided it's so much easier to just go back over the finished stitches, and saves the hassle since you only have to contend with just that one thread, and saves a lot of BF, since you're only making the one pass. I also take out that "extra" thread they put in with the filament, so in reality, all I get is the metallic part. One of the ones I'm using is almost sheer, so it adds a wonderful sparkle and doesn't change the color of the green dragon bits much at all, but also changes colors from gold to green to blue, etc. Looks like dragon scales to me Well, what I assume they look like
