Who mentioned that new addition "Windflowers?" Oh Meredith you are out to get us all. Just another Waterhouse I will have to order. But that's not really why I posted today. I know you are all waiting to hear what's up (or not up, as is the case) with my nemisis, the Heaven and Earth Waterhouse. I got a huge commission job in last month and it brought my "hobby" stitching to a screaming halt (again). I do have some pictures, just can't seem to get them up for anyone to see yet. I am up to page 13 (of 20) and it's looking quite nice. For what it is. The Son keeps reminding me that he has a big blank space on his wall, practically tapping his foot with folded arms as he mentions it. Photos up soon, promise.

Hi Julie, good to hear from you! Wow, you sound really dedicated! What is the new commissioned piece? Is it nice? How do you get that kind of work anyway? Do they pay you well for it? And does it take all the fun out of stitching having to do it to a deadline for somebody else? Having said, almost all my own projects have been for someone else!

Page 13, that's pretty good progress, I must say. Only 7 to go! You'll be on to those windflowers in no time Wink

I'm a bit stalled in my own progress at the moment so I can relate to your frustration, but just slowly slowly, the waves wear away the stone. The trick is to live in the moment and enjoy the part you're working on.

Has your son ever tried taking up the needle himself to fix his blank wall??????

Well, Page 13 is pretty fantastic in my book!!! Can't wait to see pics!

As a side note, I am working on Lady & Unicorn this week; it is approaching the 2nd anniversary of my start, and I just finished Page 2, finally!! Though, since I don't work strictly by section, I've already leaked over quite a bit on 3, and 6 & 7 below 1 & 2. I'm hoping the next year will see as much progress as I have had in the last two Very Happy I really didn't plan for this to be a 20-year project, but at this rate.... Rolling Eyes

Wow, a 20 year project, that's a pretty weighty thing! And I thought it would be major to embark upon a 12-month project! I just don't know how we're supposed to find the hours in the day!

It's pretty lucky Meredith's not waiting on you to do the model stitching for that pattern, hey Rife?!

No, you've made heaps of progress though and I'm sure this year will see you getting a lot more done. Did you finish your triptych by the way?

Thanks all. To answer some questions, no sadly, the new commission is not a nice fun one, it's a load of kits for a business, seven of them. Fussy little beaded ones on perforated paper (you've seen them in the shops). How I ended up doing this kind of work was that I helped out a friend of a friend in a store when her regular workers went on vacations etc. (This is also where I teach a majority of my classes, in her building, and how I have made contacts in the industry with other owners and designers, now I stitch for about five to eight different people/companies.) I have since stopped being the 'on call' but I still do all of her display pieces. Usually something new that comes across her desk and she wants it shown off. Seeing something stitched in person is much more effective than looking at it on the package cover (or, as we all know, viewing it on line). They are not always to my taste, some are quite nice, but I do any and all because the market is way small for this type of work. Again no, the pay is not great. But, it IS pay, so I rarely turn anything down. Also no, it never makes me NOT want to do my own stitching - usually because I do pieces I like (or that my children and other family members pick out). Funny you should mention suggesting to my son that he stitch something himself. He is facing a lay-off this summer and I actually brought this up to him. He was very sarcastic in his reply (can't imagine where he would get such an attitude) when he said, oh no Mom, you do such wonderful work I could never try to top yours, I will just wait for you to finish this one, and find something else to do with my time off. (I am hoping he will finish his degree, but that may just be a parents' wishful thinking!) The College daughter comes home in about two weeks, so we should have pictures up then (she is computer consultant). I should be done with this latest job by mid-June, back to the Waterhouse full on after that. My new goal is my own birthday (September)!

Not to hijack Julie's thread entirely, but yes, I did finish it!! I finished it on a Friday night, and spent the following Saturday & Sunday on starting that first Chatelaine!! I have the completion up on my Webshots, here: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/2899753700017582381qjPheU Uhh, don't look too close, I missed 3 beads that I saw when I took it to work to show it off Embarassed Took me looking at it upside down to realize it - and I haven't put them on yet - bad me!

I don't have my Chatelaine start on Webshots, but it is in my Multiply, if you can access it without any problems: http://rifestitch.multiply.com/photos/album/40/Knotgarden_by_Chatelaine_Martina_Weber

Yayyyyy! They both look fantastic!!! You must be so pleased to have finished that triptych (minus a few beads... ah-hem!) and you've made such great progress on the knotgarden for just 2 days!! It's easier to be super inspired at the beginning of a project isn't it? And I say ride that wave!

I thought you must've had a finish and were just sneakily not telling us about it! Wink
