Very Happy Well ladies I was very pleased to win a free SQ chart. I selected the Young Gardener. Printed it out with no problem. It is a large one. When I stitch a new project I usually start in the center, but with this I will have to start at the upper left. Has anyone started a large pattern differently? I have promised myself to finish what I am working on before even starting. It is a lovely piece of art. chris

I, too, would like to congratulate you, Christine, on your win.

As for large projects... I guess the largest cross-stitch project I've worked on was 200 x 247 stitches (only 56 colors) and I do believe I started in the middle, to make sure it was centred on the 20" square linen napkin (32 count). The pattern was all of a piece, which while large, was easy to keep track of by folding and refolding the sections.

Now, as for needlepoint... there was that large upholstered chair I did in the mid-70's...

Congrats! I usually start in the middle, but with such a large project, I imagine that it would be a PAIN to count upwards. I can't tell you how many projects have had to be torn out because of that!

I usually start all my projects in the center to get a reference point, but on a very large piece I can see it makes sense to start at the upper left corner. I will be sure to use the tip about basting at the end of the square. chris
