I'm about to start my first Scarlet Quince pattern "Girl with a Pearl Earring." Since the design covers the framing area I plan to use aida 18. I'm unsure what color fabric to use since the border is dark and I don't want the white to bleed through. Any suggestions?

I have worked on two Scarlet Quinces on 18 count. One was completed in ivory, and my current project is on white. I wish I had used white for my WIP, as I think the ivory is less "harsh", and if the fabric does show through it is not as bright as the white, so there is not quite so much contrast

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I had thought I would use a dark fabric, but they are so hard to work with if a light color will work, and they are more readily available in this area.

Welcome to the forum, and best wishes with your first SQ pattern! That is a very pretty pattern. I don't really have any advice for you since I have yet to finish my first SQ pattern. But you will get great advice from others on this site who have stitched more SQ than me.

Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement Pam. I discovered Scarlet Quince recently and fell in love with their patterns. I'm now working on a Lanarte pattern, 28 count over two threads. So far I've pulled out about about half of what I've stitched, but it's getting easier.

Thanks again, Earline

Earline,
Yes, I agree the patterns are beautiful and there are so many I would love to do. The problem is time--or lack thereof. It is really hard to narrow down to the ones that you want to do. I have started "Sunday Afternoon on Le Grande Jatte," but has been VERY slow going. I started in the center, which is what I have always done, but most everyone on here starts in a corner and does one page at a time from the top down. I also purchased "Kissing the Face of God" which is beautiful and I am already wanting to work on that one.

Best of luck with your stitching!
