Oh wow! Thanks for all the great resources! I appreciate it immensely, and my bookmarks have increased Laughing

I understand about being on a budget Rife. DH was mad at me because I ordered enough floss to kit up a few projects for our vacation (it came out to I think 18 dollars). I also bought some of those disappearing ink markers to test which 4. So grand total, 22 dollars and he was all mad like. Although I did point out I was in my budget range he set up per month for hobbies. And he conceded, since he gets the same amount. Rolling Eyes

I saw that cloth can get pretty spendy, so I was lucky to have some cloth gifted to me (not an ideal cloth, but good enough for the stage of stitching im in), so I was going to do a few more projects on that before I bought nicer stuff for hanging on the wall.

I'll probably have to save fore a few months before I can get my first SQ and the cloth to go with it. I've been stocking up on floss each month. I still just use DMC and haven't branched out. Someone was telling me I should try Sullivan's but I haven't seen any to compare and I don't take conversion charts at face value, which Im sure most everyone here is the same way Wink

I'm practically making novels here these last few days because there isnt anyone here who does cross stitch! It's so easy to just talk about. Although I did go to the HAED website and was looking at the pics people had sent in and I swear one of the guys holding up a framed stitching looks exactly like the new guy who just moved in behind us. It would be interesting if it was him or his wife though. Stitching company! Laughing

Hapy stitching everyone Cool And thank you again for the input on cloth!

_____________________________________________Jenn,
I have a feeling that you are spending MUCH less on cross-stitch than you were on cigarettes before! Remind DH of that (gently, of course, as men can be somewhat sensitive) Laughing Not to mention, it is so much better for your health so in the long run you will probably save on health expenses, life insurance, etc!!! I understand about the budget, though. I think most of us are watching the wallet pretty closely these days.

Enjoy your summer with those little ones before they go off to school in the fall!!! I started reading "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin on my vacation last week, and she says that: "The days are long, but the years are short." So true...my "babies" are practically grown--well, one is (age 21), and the other thinks she is at 15. I have realized I only get 3 more years with her at home, so I'm going to try to make the best of it! I already miss the days when they were little, even though the days were indeed long--they were very good days:)

Hi Pam! Its so wonderful to hear from you! Agreed about the little ones. My son is starting kindergarten this year. Im so excited for him but scared too, because the school isnt close enough to walk to or anything. Hell be riding a bus if I cant get enough time to use the car (DH working rotating shift mids for 28 days then days for 28 days, 12 hour shifts).

I did remind him that he is actually still using tobacco products, so I should be entitled to a little more entertainment budget, but I dont, because Im not like that. I just think it and then let it go later on haha. He is ok with me cross stitching anymore but he still asks me how I can do that because to him it is a slow hobby, and not exciting, so he rides me for it.

I decided on this vacation to forgo bringing any books, and just spend time with the kids and cross stitch on my off time when grandma and grandpa take them out to the park for their own hang out time, or after theyre in bed. I found out the hard way that it is almost impossible to stitch while in a moving behicle and stabbed my own butt with a needle after I dropped it Laughing Laughing DH then informed me that my hobby was obviously the most dangerous one in the house.

I am looking forward to my birthday so much this year. Ordering my first SQ. ot necessarily to start right away but, excited about being able to hit the order button for the first time Very Happy

Tata for now my fellow stitchers, and happy Stitching

Do you know what pattern you are ordering? It is so hard to decide, there are so many great ones! I don't think I have ever tried cross stitching in the car! I have dropped a few needles and everything stops until it is found--which isn't always easy.

Take care,

$22 is a drop in the bucket - I wish I could remember the last time I was able to kit up anything for that little outlay! Of course, that was before Chatelaines got me, and silks, and...

If you really want to give him a little sticker shock, show him one of these some day: http://europeanxs.com/cgi-bin/chatelaine.pl?chatnew-

Especially the St. Petersburg one: http://europeanxs.com/cgi-bin/chat_detail.pl?CD057- AND these kits DON'T include the chart!

(but I've never bought a kit from here - I look for sales on the various components - but probably by the time I pay shipping from 2-3 places, I've made up anything I would have saved Shocked )

So in reality, $22 ain't bad Smile And that's what, less than 5 packs of cigarettes, so, a much better trade for hours and hours of enjoyment Smile

Oh man! 6 months late, because we went on vacation and it was one thing after another until I realized Christmas was over, I never got an SQ gift card Sad and now I have time on my hands again haha.

I checked out those gorgeous designs from that web stie and I definitly think that if I ever get to order anything like that, itll be a little later in my stitching career haha.

I never did get to finish my cross stitch for my grandma. I was in the home stretch, went downstairs to cook lunch, and forgot to lock my craft room door. The kiddoes went in and cut it up. It was ribbony, and the anger was flowing, and I had to step outside and deep breathe. When the anger passed I burst into tears, hehe.

But the kids were ok, and didn't cut themselves on my scissors, so that was a relief. And I wound up receiving an interesting kit as a replacement, so I started working on Dharma, by Vervaco. Ive put in about 35 hours of work, and I think another 60 or so and itll be ready to send to my Grandma. Its going alot faster, as its all huge chunks of color.

After I finish that one, I am going to be doing a cross stitch for my aunt of her beagle, Bella. And (rolling my eyes at admitting this), I will also be doing a cross stitch of Dr. Carlisle from the Twilight Saga for my other aunt.

Also, as a personal update, I have stayed smoke free so Im going on a year without cigarettes! We have saved loads of money, and now DH isn't too upset when I order cross stitch supplies without letting him know Laughing

Hope everyone had a great holiday season and HAPPY Stitching

Great job!!!! I'm so proud of you! You definitely deserve a treat for that huge accomplishment

Laughing

As for the kids cutting up the stitching, I just don't know what to say--except that it sounds like you handled that a lot better than I would have. I almost wanted to cry for you!
Take care and keep the room locked Shocked
Pam
