Has anyone ever on 18 ct aida used the pinhead stitch? Were you able to complete your Scarlet quince pattern using the pinhead on all the confetti? I sure wish I could use 18 ct aida and have a flat completed work without all the confetti bumps. I am working on a small piece of evenweave 32 ct over 2 using the pinhead. The pinhead gives me no trouble but it seems to take me longer to do the evenweave than the aida. Laraine

Hi Laraine

I use the pin head stitch to start on 36 count linen but I must be honest I have never tried it on aida as there isn't that useful little middle hole. I have never used the pin head to finish off as it seems like too much hassle - I just run the thread under some other stitches to anchor it.

I would persevere using evenweave or even linen as you get used to counting the 'extra' holes quite quickly. I also wouldn't do the confetti stitches individually. I find a crowd of them and follow them making sure that I am close enough to sufficient stitches to be able to anchor my thread when I've finished.

Given all the colour changes on an SQ piece you will find you get a 'matted' back (I think it goes towards strengthening the stitches/material) and it will never be as neat as the front - at least, mine isn't! Laughing

I do hope this helps.

Best wishes and happy stitching! Stitching

Hi, Laraine,
I've seen some cross-stitch that it's hard to tell the back from the front! Mine is definitely NOT included. However, I do avoid the problem of lumps this way: I press the completed and washed work face up on a thick towel. I use a piece of fairly thin fluffy polyester interfacing stuck to the face of my acid-free foam-core board with acid-free glue. Any lumps on the back just disappear into the [slight] padding.
