Hey girls, just having a mathematical breakdown here trying to work out thread counts - if a chart tells me to stitch on 25 count over 1 but I don't want to stitch over 1, what count should I be using over 2- surely not 50!!
This really is just too hard!
I don't think you'd lose a lot of detail going down to 18ct - I know a lot of people do HAED on 18 or 20. You might just have to do a little experimenting to decide if one or two strands gives you the coverage you want. I always use 2 on 18, but then again, most things I do over-2 (or on Aida) are blended, so need to use two.
I guess I am going to need to eventually break down and pick one of these HAEDs myself - I love over-1 stitching, and cannot imagine how some of these charts get done with no blends! I gotta try one someday!
I know what you mean! After SQ it's hard to imagine a pattern with no blends!
As for strand number- they want me to do 2 over 1 on 25 count (which I personally can't even imagine it must be so tight) so I think that IF I crack and get the one I'm looking at and still decide to do it on say 18 count (which means that I'll get a 36 and work over 2), I will definitely still be using 2 strands of floss.
Pray do tell why you love over 1 so much? I've never really seen the attraction myself. Although petitpoint can be beautiful for a small delicate design.
I don't really know why I've become addicted to it. I have recently acquired a taste for monochrome spot samplers, and overdyed threads - over-1 just seems to bring out the best in overdyed threads. And I love the feel of the stitches; I was just thinking the other night, when I finish the one I'm working on now (tonight, I hope), I'll be sad when it is behind glass, because I won't get to run my fingers over it anymore
So far, I've only worked over-1 on 32ct, but am willing to give 36ct a try, should the opportunity present itself.
