I have a pleather thimble that I use on my middle finger, though the one I originally bought wasn't quite what I was after and will need to be replaced with something similar; it didn't fit, so I had to run a seam through it to tighten it. And then the way it was constructed has caused it to split at the other end. It's kind of inconvenient that these all seem to be in sealed packages - not all fingertips are created equal, I actually need to TRY THEM ON to find one that fits!
I also bought a pack of the Colonial stick-on thimble pads, and while they work okay, they were not my favorite; I don't think the oval shape is very helpful, as it doesn't quite cover all the possible places where I need it to be. And, after the first time or two that I caught the needle at the edge, thus prying up a tiny bit of it, before long, I was spending more time trying to get it to stay down than stitching.
I found both of these at Hobby Lobby, in the sewing/quilting section.
What I need is a band aid that, instead of the gauze pad in the middle, has something that can't be pierced by the needle easily and still pliant enough to bend around my finger. That way, I can fit the thing where it needs to be, and have a large area to work with. I need to come up with something before L&U comes out again...
