I finally started working on Fair Face of Woman. (boy is there a lot of black stitches ) Anyways, I was looking at the face thinking when I get close I want to stitch the lighter colors before I stitch the black because I have had my light thread pick up the dark before. But to my surprise I see where the skin color 945 DMC is blended with a strand of light teal 3811?? Can that be right?? It seems like her face will look green? I am wondering if there is an error in the pattern (which others have done so I doubt that) or have they changed the color of 3811 and mine is older???
I was pondering over the same thoughts when I did my "Faif Face" some years ago. If you have a look in the gallery, especially the hafl done one, you will see her green hue (probably a commom feature with fairie folk ) The finished and framed image is no good though, for some reason the enlagment becomes square.
Are you doing the large or the smaller pattern?
Mine is the smaller, but I have the pattern for the larger one in my stash, and might do her again some day because I love the finer details in that one. Also, this was my first attemt on 22 count, and I was struggeling a bit with lumps and bumps as 22 count is a really tight fit for 2 strand stitching. My experience from that piece was to finish each X as you go. The confetti areas will always be whole X-es, so if you stiitch the whole piece like that there will be less difference in the thikness of the stitching.
I now do all my work on 22 count. I feel that the smaller scale brings a super clarity to the image.
Thanks Vibeke...the fairy folk idea explains it... I am not sure I am going to like it! I am doing the large on 22 hardanger but I have not enjoyed working with the 22 because it is so soft it is hard to not pull to tight. And some stitches slide under the weave of the fabric if I am not careful it seems hard to get even stitches. I am afraid it will not turn out very well. And there seems to be a lot of tiny white spots where the material shows through all the black.
I checked yours out, it is very beautiful, didn't all the black stitches drive you crazy!! I was so itching to get to a different color and the first color is blended black and dark brown...very difficult to see any difference Oh well when I get to the colors I figure they will POP!! LOL
