Cross Stitch Patterns from Fine Art by Scarlet Quince   Scarlet Quince News

Dear stitching friends,
We have some wonderful new pictures in our gallery! There is a beginning of "The Accolade - Edmund Blair-Leighton" (interestingly, starting at the bottom) and two completed pieces beautifully framed, "Bowl of Flowers in a Landscape - Joseph Nigg" and "Basket and Vase of Flowers - Cornelis Van Spaendonck". These are must-sees!

"Dancing Bears" (shown right) was suggested by a member. If you have suggestions for patterns, we'd love to hear them! If you have already submitted a suggestion and your email address changes, please be sure to let us know - the best way is to use our member services page.

By the way, people occasionally ask "What's going on with my suggestion? Are you going to use it? Any idea when?" We thought it might be helpful to explain what some of the considerations are.

Alas, it's quite time-consuming to create a cross stitch pattern, and we have a long list of ideas. We try to select pictures that will appeal to lots of people, and we try to have a variety (and that includes cycling through various styles. If we went on a major Impressionist kick, for example, that might be great for some people but not so good for people who prefer other styles). Also, we sometimes have a problem with the art. We need a good-quality, fairly large image to work with. If we can't find such an image to use as the starting point, we won't be able to use the picture. Then there are pictures which by their nature don't lend themselves well to cross stitch - especially pictures with a lot of people in them. These were often huge canvasses and simply can't be reduced enough to fit on a single piece of fabric. And of course some pictures are copyrighted and we can't use those. (We may be able to license some copyrighted work in the future.)

Our hope here is to give you a little insight into our process, not to discourage you from sending your suggestions! You may have the perfect idea we've been looking for, plus remember that if we create a pattern from your suggestion, we'll email you a copy of the pattern!
