August 2019

Hello stitching friends,

We have one pattern award this month! Marilyn Encinosa of Miami, Florida suggested Elegant Still Life with Flowers - Eugene Bidau. She has received a copy of the pattern, and thanks again, Marilyn, for the suggestion. We hope you all will like it too!

Goodbye to the Forums

The time has come, I think, to drop support for the forums on the Scarlet Quince site. Most people are using the Facebook group now which is more full-featured than the forums ever were (in particular, it's easier to post pictures). We are also continuing to post updates on the Facebook page but the group has some advantages, such as being able to search within the group. Everyone can view the group, but if you want to post, you must ask to join the group. There is a question to answer (what have you stitched or would you like to stitch?) which is intended to help weed out spammers. There is no right answer -- just respond and we'll add you to the group. I know some people prefer not to be on Facebook which I totally understand, but still, it doesn't make sense to continue supporting the forums when most people have gone elsewhere.

We've had a notice up on the forums for a while saying that they were going away soon, but to give you all a little time to grab anything off the forums tha you might want to save, we'll set a date of the end of September for the forums to be taken down. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please let us know.

Preview of Coming Attractions

August has been a crazy month, and it may seem like there's nothing happening here, but we do have several things in the works, or at least planned.

We will soon be adding the newest 35 DMC colors to the floss labels!

There is a new tutorial in the works on a technique for keeping needles from coming unthreaded. We just need to get the pictures done. (Speaking of tutorials, we have up to now made a deliberate choice to illustrate the tutorials with still drawings. Most people are doing videos which I feel makes things easier for THEM but not so much for the viewer. I always have to watch videos over and over because the critical points go by so fast. How do you feel about this? Would you like to see more videos, or do you like the way we've been doing it?)

On the SQ Stitch front, there are a few bugs that we will be addressing soon, and a little longer term, will have some enhancements to help you better manage the list of patterns (particularly if you have a lot of patterns).

We are also going to be working on making the site work better on small screens. That's a ways out but we just wanted to let you know that we are aware that it needs to be done.

What else? Do you have ideas or suggestions for things that you think would improve the site or SQ Stitch?

Keep stitching,
Meredith
