Cross Stitch Patterns from Fine Art by Scarlet Quince

July 2020

Hello stitching friends,

All our new patterns this month were by suggestion! Chalk Paths - Eric Ravilious, was suggested by Sue, England. Ravilious was a new artist to us, which is why we like the suggestion system so much! Roses in a Glass Vase - Jacob van Hulsdonck was the suggestion of Robyn Starkey, Vancouver, British Columbia. Jeanne Hebuterne in a Red Shawl - Amadeo Modigliani was first suggested by Carol Menconi, of Park City, Utah. (BTW, this was suggested under various titles, but we always check pictures to avoid opening multiple suggestions that are really the same picture.) We also heard at last from the first person to suggest The Runaway - Norman Rockwell, which was announced in the June newsletter - Alicazam, from Arcadia, California. All have received copies of the patterns they suggested.

More on Pattern Discontinuations

Our Diego Rivera patterns were discontinued at the end of July. We are still hoping/expecting to renew the Rudi Hurzlmeier art (Krahe). There are two more patterns that will be discontinued at the end of September -- The Language of Flowers - G. D. Leslie and Island Mood Patchwork - Anne Martin McCool. Both patterns come in the full picture versions and smaller vignettes. All will be discontinued as of October 1, so if you have been planning to buy either "someday", you should do it soon.

Tip for Keeping Your Place

One of our members sent us an idea she developed for keeping her eye on a limited area as she is stitching. She cut a 1 x 5.5 inch piece of stenciling mylar and marked it with a grid to match the grid she had marked on her fabric, and she lays that over her pattern to keep her focused on the area she is stitching. You could extend this idea by cutting a window in a sheet of cardboard or craft plastic and taping the mylar over the window (cut it bigger than the window). This would hide areas you're not currently stitching. You could make a similar window for your fabric from felt which could be pinned in place. (Of course, if you're using SQ Stitch, you already have the pattern viewport.) Experiment!

If you have tricks for making your stitching easier or more fun, we encourage you to share them!

Stay well and keep stitching,
Meredith
