The rising sun pours golden light through a gap in the mountains to illuminate the Merced river flowing through a meadow in the Yosemite valley. The rugged granite cliffs rise sharply not far from the bank of the calm river which reflects the trees and mountains. A grizzly bear in the foreground provides scale amid all this grandeur.
