Lady with Unicorn: Sense of Touch

Counted Cross Stitch Pattern

One of the series of Lady and Unicorn tapestries from Cluny representing the senses. The sense of touch is indicated by the lady stroking the unicorn's horn. The lady, dressed in an elaborate jeweled velvet and brocade gown, holds a heraldic banner. On either side are the lion and unicorn with shields buckled on with the same heraldic design. The millefleur background includes pansies, forget-me-nots, daisies, and many other kinds of flowers, and various birds and animals animals including rabbits, dogs, a wildcat, and monkeys. The trees are an oak, holly, orange, and possibly an imaginary species. (This pattern is solidly stitched.)

We also offer Sense of Taste, Sense of Hearing, Sense of Sight, Sense of Smell, and A Mon Seul Desir. See UNK024-S for a smaller version (fewer stitches, slightly less detail) of this pattern, or compare them side by side. (Late 1400s)
